East African Coffee & Farmer Relationships

Surya Coffee is currently focusing on sourcing high-quality coffee beans from East Africa, particularly coffees with exceptional flavor and aroma profiles. Countries such as Rwanda and Burundi are known as the “Land of a Thousand Hills” due to their mountainous landscapes and dramatic elevation differences, which create ideal conditions for producing distinctive and premium coffees. In Rwanda especially, we are interested in sourcing rare coffee beans grown at elevations reaching over 2,300 meters, where the rich aroma and delicate flavors produce truly remarkable coffee experiences.

Our approach is not simply to purchase coffee beans, but to build direct relationships and long-term trust with local farmers and producers. By creating these strong partnerships, we aim to establish a positive cycle that benefits everyone involved — from the producing regions and export partners to the Japanese market and consumers. We believe this circulation creates growth, opportunity, and shared happiness for all parties connected through coffee.

Moving forward, we plan to continue expanding our network of partner farms and producers. For truly exceptional coffees, we are also considering air freight transportation in order to preserve freshness and maintain the highest quality standards when delivering coffee to Japan.

In addition, we are planning future coffee farm tours that will allow participants to visit producing regions directly, experience local coffee culture, and connect with farmers firsthand. If groups of approximately five to ten people are interested, we hope to organize tours that provide meaningful experiences and a deeper understanding of the origins behind specialty coffee.
